About the Project

Step Heroes is a social exergame where the player’s steps fuel the action of the characters. This is an unfinished project currently in development at the GAIMS Center. Step Heroes is an idle game where players take on the role of a plant warrior fighting evil slime creatures that have captured various forest critters. They spend resources to upgrade equipment and progress further through the forest to unlock various weapons.

My Responsibilities

My contribution to the project was to create all UI, character design, and animation. I also worked on the implementation of the UI assets, 2D rigging and animation, and visual effects directly in Unity Engine. Unfortunately the project has been cut and I do not have access to the Unity project files to show in-engine work.

Sprite Swap System

Using the PSB (Photoshop) experimental import option in Unity, we created a sprite swap system for weapons, characters, and enemies. This allows us to reduce our scope and reuse animation for different characters.

Character Animation and Effects

For the characters, I created PSB files with creature layers, imported them into the Unity’s experimental layered imports, and rigged and animated in Unity. All art assets, rigging, and animations are done by me.
